2008 Pro Vintage Race Rules

** You must be a paid PVR member to participate prior to the start of the season **
There will no longer be a daily membership available for PVR Events

 

PVR will give ample notice before any rules revisions, however, the Driver is responsible for reviewing the rules regularly

 

 

q       10/01/2006 RULES CLARIFICATION UPDATE:
PVR RULE: Stock spindle width plus up to 3-inch spreaders allowed
CLARIFICATION:  The measurement is from the spindle (vertical) shaft center, then out 3 inches.  Do not measure from the saddle or saddle bolt location.  If you have an OFFSET spindle, you must take the spindle offset into account, and include that measurement in the 3” width.  Do not exceed 3” from the spindle center.  

q       73 EXT's can run Porter front ends.  However, this CANNOT be stubbed in.  It must be one piece like the kit in 73 / bulk head assembly, and must be enclosed PROFESSINALLY!!!! If you run a Porter front end. no spreaders are allowed.

SAFTEY/ All Sleds & Drivers   

·       Safety is #1 Priority!

·       All Safety issues are YOUR responsibility.

·       The Race director & PVR Directors will make all decisions

·       All drivers must attend the MANDATORY drivers meeting daily

·       Safe Jacs & shin guards are required in ALL classes

·       Snell 2000, 75 % bright Orange helmet

·       Working tether, no cutoff switches other than handlebar rocker or push pull switch by throttle lever.

·       Tether MUST be worn when sled is running. If NOT you WILL BE told to load it up!

·       All sleds MUST have METAL clutch guard covering both clutches & securely fastened

·       Snow flap MUST touch the ground with driver seated & be pinned or chained

·       Track stands must be used when running a sled up. No lifting a sled to run it up. Stand must be USSA legal, rear & side guards installed.  You will be asked to load it up if not in compliance.

·       Tail-lights are 1157 bulb or equivalent. Tail light must be lit prior to getting on the track

·       No Cobra skis & no alum leaf springs (cobras only on a Manta)

·       All metal ski loops must be padded & have a 1-inch min. width. Plastic ski loops are ok with a 1-inch min. width

·       Studs 3/8 inch max over the highest part of the track

·       Min 6 inch numbers on sled sides in contrasting colors & drivers jacket. If we can’t read it, we can’t score it !!!!!!!!!!

·       No Orange on the sled

·       Cleated tracks are legal IF in good condition.  The director of PVR will look this rule every year. If you’re going to build a sled, it is WISE to convert to rubber track.  The race director & PVR directors will determine sled track condition. BOTTOM LINE, make sure it is SAFE!!

·       NO JUNK SLEDS !!!!  We are putting on a professional show !!!!

·       ALL drivers under 21 years of age will be REQUIRED to show proof of age, birth cert or drivers license when asked (PLEASE send a copy with your membership form)

·       If you INTENTIONALLY violate any safety rules or decisions made by PVR or it’s track officials, the PVR board will decide your punishment, including, possible expulsion from PVR race events!!!!!   NO is NO!!!!!

  

q      SPECIALTY CLASSES

ü     MASTERS:     You must be age 50 & older to compete.  NO top 5 PRO drivers allowed.  PVR board will determine if you are a top 5 driver….

ü     SPORT:                 Beginner classes, entry level, CANNOT run pro 73 & older classes, but can run all others.   You are either are a 73 & Older pro driver or a Sport driver…not both!

ü     WOMENS FAN: For women only

ü     JR’s: For young men & women, 12-17 years of age (no one under 18 years of age can run ANY OTHER CLASSES !!)  Only sled types allowed in class:  0 – 340 CC F/A, Fan Mod, SuperStock F/A, Fan or L/C, only. Jr racers will get a heat & final @ all races…. This is to give them more seat time.   

q      GENERAL CLASSES: 

·         MASTERS… NO top 5 PRO drivers allowed…PVR board of directors will  decide if you are a top 5 driver. 

·       Any 85 & older production leaf-spring snowmobile.  Engine, mount, exhaust, chaincase, & chassis must remain stock & in the original positions.  Original ignition systems (may use aftermarket cdi’s) & any size carbs (no Flat slides).  Airbox may be removed … must LOOK like the original sled.

·       Alum skis allowed (North-star) with up to 3 inch spreaders per side max (no trick skis)

·       Internal engine mods allowed, .060 over bore max.

·       Rear suspension, drive shaft & track may be changed to meet ISR rubber track rule.   NO “R-series” tracks allowed.  The RULE reads:  Can be NO advantage from a track change!!!

·         Replacement parts must be OEM (no Wahl susp.) this is NOT for an advantage, rather to conform to ISR rules. If running a cleated track, drive train must be stock for the sled

·       Sled mods can be made for driver comfort ONLY.  EX: Handlebars, windshield, seat, fuel tank 

o       73 & Older 340 SINGLE FAN MOD / Men’s & Women’s 

·       No factory mod sleds, no reed motors, engine must match the chassis & year

·       Cooling fan MUST be intact (FAN CLASS)

·       Any carb, exhaust, clutches, ignition, chaincase

·       Any functional leaf-spring ski, no shorter than 12 inches

·       Internal engine mods, .060 over bore max … 340 cc max                 

·       Any track & suspension

·       Stock spindle width Plus 3 inch per side spreader max 

       85 & Older Leaf-Spring: (NON SNO-PRO)

§         F/A MOD:

o          250/300       

85 & Older Leaf-Spring: (SNO PRO CLASSES)

§       F/A MOD: 340 / 440 / 800

§       LIQUID 250 / 340 / 440    

·       Sleds can be widened up to 40 inches MAX WIDTH …if stock SPINDLE center to center is used, up to 3 inch per side spreaders can be used, but not more than 40-inch width max

·       Motor must match the chassis, any motor mods allowed, .060 over bore max (except open class) any carbs, ignition, any track & suspension, exhaust, functional leaf spring skis (no shorter than 12 inches) (Anderson skis are legal) 

Sno-Pro 85 & Older IFS 250/340/440 (engine must match chassis)

Sno-Pro 85 & Older IFS 250x/340x/440x

·       45- inch max sled width

·       Motor does NOT have to match the chassis

·       No rave valves or champ/sprint chassis, chassis must be an exact clone of the original

·       Any internal mods allowed, .060 max bore

·       Any carb size

·       Any exhaust

·       Any ignition

·       Any track & suspension, chain case location  

o       73 & Older:  340 Stock Single Cyl Fan Cooled   (No Limited build or factory race sleds allowed) 

·       Stock exhaust (no MOD kit pipes), no reeds

·       Sled appearance must remain stock (chassis, carb, seat, skis, paint schemes & fuel tanks, etc)

·       Motor internals can be modified, .060 max bore

·       Comet Duster or Power Block Clutches can be used, NO OTHERS unless stock!!

·       3 inch per side spreaders max

·       Track & suspension MUST be original for the sled (unless changed to meet ISR rules)

·       Cooling FAN MUST be intact (FAN CLASS)

o         85 & OLDER PURE STOCK FAN & F/A (NEW CLASS)

o        PURE stock is exactly what it says; STOCK

o        Up to a 340cc (F/A) free air single pipe or 400cc FAN single pipe… NO exotics or special builds

o        Mercury trail twister 340’s, Polaris 340 tx’s are legal ( not starfires) …

o        This is a ENTRY level class…. NO money….we have NOT decided pay out….it may be PVR clothing or even trophy or plaques.

           The ONLY modifications allowed are…..

o         Original handle bars must be used BUT can be bent for driver comfort.. IF changing to a rubber track you MUST contact PVR  as to WHAT your planning on doing for changes… remember NO ADVANTAGE… but if you have a POOR condition cleated track it must be changed!!!!!

o         COMET DUSTER may be used springs, cams  & weights may be changed….. the remainder of the sled MUST be STOCK

o         Chain & gears may be changed

o         Both clutches must be covered

o         Slide lube system may be installed

 

ISR EVENTS….. for 2008: For 2008 we may have a couple of events limited to ISR rules with a 20 class max for PVR.  As more info becomes available, we will post it on the web forum.  ISR rules must be followed to race at these events, as we are working with USSA to put on a top notch vintage show in front of thousands of people.  This will open the door for future PVR events on a separate weekend.  A the promoters said…..” WE want to test the waters”…..
